The purpose of this Gala 2022 is to bring awareness and to motivate people to join in our fight against Parkinson’s.               BIO

              DR. RANA

              World-renowned neurologist Dr. Abdul Qayyum Rana founded the World Parkinson’s Program. His writing on Parkinson’s disease has been used in over 50 countries.

              Dr. Abdul Qayyum Rana is a world-renowned neurologist who specializes in Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders. He is the director of the Parkinson’s Clinic of Eastern Toronto and Movement Disorders Centre in Toronto. Dr. Abdul Qayyum Rana also founded the World Parkinson’s Program, a Canadian charitable organization dedicated to improving the lives of those with Parkinson’s disease by proving free medications and other supportive services. He was awarded an honorary FRCP by the Royal College of Physicians of the UK and the Wayne-Hening Award for his research on restless leg syndrome and Parkinson’s disease.

              Dr. Abdul Qayyum Rana’s writing on Parkinson’s disease has been translated into over 20 languages and disseminated in over 50 countries. His series of 13 brochures titled, “Frequently Asked Questions about Parkinson’s Disease” is used by colleagues from around the world. Dr. Rana is the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Parkinsonism and has written eight books on the topics of neurology, Parkinson’s disease, and movement disorders.

              OMOTOLA THOMAS

              Omotola Thomas, a self-proclaimed “reckless optimist”, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease (PD) in 2016, at the age of 35.

              Although born and raised in Nigeria, she has also lived in America, South Africa, and most recently, England, where she currently resides with her husband and two children. While in America, she obtained both her bachelor’s degree (in Systems Engineering) and her master’s degree (in Project Management) from the George Washington University. She is a blogger and the founder of ParkinStand – a movement established to inspire people to engage in empowering physical and mental activities. She believes strongly in the power of a positive mindset and promotes that message through ParkinStand. A passionate Parkinson’s activist, she volunteers extensively for Parkinson’s charities including World Parkinson’s Program, and she has been an integral part of WPP’s medication program in Africa.

              JOHN BAUMANN

              John transforms audiences with his positive outlook on life despite John being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2002 when he was 41 years old.

              His purpose is to help as many people affected by Parkinson’s or any other condition to discover the benefits of being positive and provides “tangible takeaways” to not only patients, but also to caregivers and health care professionals. John truly “embraces” his condition.

              John exemplifies the word “resilience” starting out as an attorney, then, after getting the news that he has Parkinson’s, continuing to practice for ten more years while getting prepared to fulfill his lifelong dream of teaching at a University, writing a book on success, and finding his life’s purpose as an inspirational speaker.

              John travels around the globe to inspire Parkinson’s patients.
